Dear Johnny:

I have loved

the things that don't matter:                   books

left behind and worn-in shoes                    An

untwinned earring           Airport waiting areas

                     Your hip bone, mammalian tusk,

               wild current overcoming and leaving

traces                     We practice our words on

other bodies               Perhaps it is not so bad

in Southern England,   that heavy land of grays

and greens, of rain and                   Send news

of D. and S., though I fear    growing attached

to their names            When you return we will

live like plants                I've been finding sand

in my belly button
