from SERMONS AND LECTURES BOTH BLANK AND RELENTLESS

It's been years or weeks or several minutes

We were drinking martinis when I learned how
to fire--and also that the new physics makes things

marvelously dense and awfully full of numbers,

which are nothing      And yes I'm aware
of the pitfalls of the absolute, the leaping
of faith around the room between opposites      Thus

I take my chances with heady exuberance, while you
stand back pretending detachment, but hoping
for the best and trying not to worry      It's like this

At the center of the Milky Way
is a massive black hole      A cluster of stars—
not a metaphor--but actual stars swirling
fast and hot around the drain of existence...

Right now I have to stop and look      But I'll be back
to finish this      When you see me you should
hold somebody close against your spirit-body

Don't be in a hurry      Pick me
